What is bioplastic?

The "I'm Green" symbol is only released for use after confirmation of the amount of sustainable raw material that the product contains.

Traditional PE (polyethylene) is mainly made from crude oil, whereas "I'm Green" PE (bioplastic) is made from a minimum of 90% sugar cane (ethanol). Ethanol is extracted from the sugarcane, which is a form of alcohol. Ethanol is then used to produce bioplastic.

The sugar cane used for dantoy bioplastic grows on plantations in the southern and central regions of Brazil, more than 2,500 km away from the Amazon region. Expansion of sugarcane cultivation areas is controlled by the "Sugarcane Agroecological Zoning" formed by the federal government of Brazil. The harvested sugarcane is transported by train to the further process, which, in contrast to transport by truck, is more environmentally friendly.

The sugarcane can be harvested several times. New plants are planted every 5-7 months. year. The field is harvested at intervals of 6-12 months and can therefore be defined as a sustainable raw material.

Sugar cane absorbs CO2 from the air and thus minimizes the greenhouse effect. When producing bioplastic, the CO2 account from the birth of the plant to finished bioplastic becomes positive. For every kilo of bioplastic produced, 3.09 kg of CO2 is removed from the atmosphere.

Bioplastic is produced with the same equipment and in the same plant as traditional plastic. Thus, there is no need to invest in anything new.

dantoy bioplastic, as well as our traditional plastic toys, is a quality product with a long life, which is not made to break down in nature. Our toy products do not contain any toxic substances, but are not intended to be thrown into nature as waste. They should be disposed of in accordance with current legislation. Both bioplastic and traditional plastic are 100% recyclable. If our toy products were to break down quickly in nature, they would not be durable. On the other hand, it makes good sense with rapidly degradable biomaterial in the production of disposable products such as water bottles and plastic bags, as these types of products often end up around nature as waste.
